In 1863 British Crown forces invaded Māori lands in the Waikato, unleashing a vicious war that would change this country and region forever.

After the British Crown invaded the Waikato, in 1863-4, Māori who had defended their homes were branded ‘rebels’ against the Crown. 1.2 million acres of their land was confiscated.
